MAGDALENE BOB LAHAI

I am Magdalene Bob Lahai, a potential year two (2) Development Studies student at the University of Makeni, and I solemnly write to unveil my experience so far at the University of Makeni. However, it is striking to note that my life before gaining admission to the university was punctuated by some grieving circumstances. In that, my life prior my admission into the university was marked by uncertainty and low self-esteem, and as such, I am tempted to note at this outset that life before my entry to the university was daunting and very much brutal on me. This was the case largely because satisfying the University’s entry requirement was stressful and breathtaking as I frustratingly had to write the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination for several times in the midst of some abject financial difficulties. Thus, that tendency followed me up to the university until I took a conscious step not to be mentally disturbed and dominated by the past. So, it is imperative to note that life preceding my entry to the university was not a bed of roses.

Devoid from the above given, however, my experience at the University of Makeni has been overwhelmingly remarkable and encouraging even though at the very start it was not easy to wrap my head round the given circumstance but so far my goals seem achievable. This is the situation because at UNIMAK students are prepared to endure their different courses, and my circumstance is not an exception.

Following from the foregoing, since I started taking classes, my eyes are now opened to so many things and my heart is overly receptive to each and everything it comes across. As strange as it firstly seemed to me, the university has helped me to grapple with various academic skills which amongst others are intense research skills and good writing skills. These skills were obviously absent prior to my admission, thanks to the university and our efficient lecturers. Because of these mentioned skills, I can now handle any research assignment given and also write any given test or examination.

Consequently, the following are first semester results on the modules offered, which are effective of the skills gathered so far:

Introduction to Economics- A-

Introduction to Development Studies- B-

University Studies- B

Introduction to Politics and Democracy- C+

Social Research- C+

Ethical Issues- C

Communication Skills- C-

French- D

Thus, my first semester GPA is 3.43

Note that the above grades represented are for my first semester, and I hope to communicate my second semester result as soon as possible as they are yet to be published.

In all, the above given are evident of my experience at the University of Makeni so far, and I anticipate more good experiences as time passes by. Thus, my experience so far is proudly a good one to reckon with considering my life’s situation in the past. Also, I want to firmly assure you that I am poised for more transformations as far as my time at UNIMAK is concerned, and my performance is bound to improve in the subsequent semesters.
