FREE Sports and Games Social Afternoon for carers (22 February)
We’re working in partnership with Sheffield City Trust (SCT) to offer carers a social afternoon of FREE sports and games at Ponds Forge on the last Wednesday of the month. A great chance to meet others and have a break. Carers are welcome to bring someone, but please wear suitable clothing and footwear. Some of our team and some SCT staff will be on hand to help.

FREE workshop to help carers be aware of possible scams
The workshop will be led by Sheffield Trading Standards, who are responsible for making sure goods and services sold in the city meet the laws controlling accuracy, description, price, quality, quantity and safety. The aim is to help carers be aware of the warning signs if they think someone they are caring for, or someone they know, is vulnerable to scams or work by rogue traders.

The new Carer Poverty Coalition will collectively campaign for carers
The coalition is made up of 93 national and local organisations. They will be campaigning to end poverty amongst carers by advocating for policy change that adequately values, recognises and supports unpaid carers. This includes reform of the current benefits system by bringing in better systems to support carers to continue with paid work. Use the link for more details.

Carer's Leave Bill passes key stages in the House of Commons
The Carer’s Leave Bill will give more than two million working carers the legal right to one week of unpaid Carer’s Leave for planned and foreseen commitments for the first time. The Bill has passed various stages in the House of Commons and is now going to the House of Lords for approval. Use the link for full details on the Carers UK website.

'Carer Award' recognises the work of unpaid carers in Sheffield
BBC Radio Sheffield recently launched their 'Make A Difference Awards' and are looking for nominations in eight categories. This includes a CARER AWARD for 'someone who improves the life of an individual or group of people by caring for them on a regular basis'. Details available from the link on the right and please note nominations close on Sunday 5 March.

Carers invited to give feedback on important future planning
Sheffield’s NHS, voluntary and community sector, and the City Council are updating their physical health improvement plans for people living with severe mental illness, people with learning disabilities, and autistic people. They are keen to hear from people affected by these plans and invite carers to take part in an online survey that closes at the end of February.

Take a look at our range of FREE activities and local support groups
Our programme of 'Activities' is designed to help carers share experiences and meet others with a caring role. The cafe and the choir meet every week while the walking group and new 'sports and games social afternoon' meet up monthly. Use the link on the right for details of all these events or click here for information about a range of other local support groups for carers.

Free legal advice clinic for unpaid carers offered each month
Leigh Purdy at 'Lawson Wills and Probate' kindly provides carers with access to free 30-minute individual legal advice clinics each month - and the next is at the end of March. Leigh is a legal expert and a former Solicitor who has been offering pro bono services for the Carers Centre since 2020. Use the link for more details and how to arrange a place on one of the clinics.

Carers invited to join others at some 'Creative Art Workshops' at Firvale
Join these FREE art workshops, working with a professional artist, and create artwork that explores all the different ways we celebrate and remember life in different ways. The workshops start at 1230 at Firvale Community Hub and run on Wednesdays from 22 Feb to 15 March. No experience is needed as the artist will support you and all materials will be provided.
